Charnwood Sports Awards Finalists Revealed

Awards will be handed out in 11 different categories at this year’s ceremony at Burleigh Court in Loughborough on Monday, 9 December 2024.

The event, which is organised and run by Charnwood Borough Council, is in its 14th year, and celebrates the sporting achievements of individuals, clubs and volunteers, as well as highlighting workplaces and schools which are making a difference to the health and wellbeing of residents.

It has been another memorable year of sport and a host of athletes with links to Charnwood competed at the summer Olympics and Paralympics in Paris.

Three of those - Loughborough-based gold medallist swimmers Dan Wiffen, Tully Kearney and Will Ellard - will battle it out for the Senior Sports Person of the Year award, along with masters discus thrower Gillian Astle.

Councillor Liz Blackshaw, the Council’s lead member for communities and neighbourhoods, said:

“I’m thrilled to see so many inspiring individuals and teams among this year’s finalists for the Charnwood Sports Awards and I’d like to congratulate them all."

“These awards shine a light on the dedication, perseverance and talent within our borough, from grassroots volunteers to elite athletes reaching for the stars. Sport plays such a vital role in bringing people together and improving health, and this event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate those making a real difference through sport."

“We’re looking forward to honouring all our finalists. Their hard work and passion sets a fantastic example for us all and it’s great to recognise and celebrate their achievements.”
